Sugar Cookies RecipeSugar Cookies

Cream together and beat until light and fluffy:

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 cup sugar

Add and beat well:

  • 2 well-beaten eggs
  • 2 tbsp. cream
  • 1 tbsp. vanilla or almond

Sift together:

  • 3-1/2 cups cake flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder

Add sifted dry ingredients to creamed mixture. Shape into mound, wrap in waxed paper and chill thoroughly. Roll on board lightly “floured” with confectioners sugar, until dough is about 1/4 inch thick. Dip Cookie Craft Cookie Cutter in confectioners sugar each time before cutting cookie, then place cookie on lightly greased baking sheet. Bake in moderate oven (375 degrees) for about 8 minutes or until delicately browned.

Frosting and Decorating

  • 1 egg white
  • 1 cup confectioner sugar
  • Few grains salt

Add sugar gradually to the unbeaten egg white. Beat until smooth and of a consistency to pour slightly. Divide frosting into two or three small bowls and color in pastel shades with vegetable coloring; flavor as desired.

Dough Art (Microwave Recipe)

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup salt
  • 1-1/2 cups hot water (instant coffee added to water gives dough a “browned” color)

Knead dough 6-8 minutes. Roll out dough and cut with Cookie Craft Cookie Cutters into desired shapes.

Place on wax paper on glass tray; with a toothpick, make several holes in each piece to let air escape, then microwave on high for about 2 minutes. Time will vary according to size of “cookies”.

When baked, allow to cool before decorating.

You’ll have the prettiest tree ornaments you’ve ever seen with your own handmade COOKIE CRAFT “cookies”.
